The murder of Christopher Wallace , better known by his stage names " the Notorious B. The hip hop artist was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles , California. Upon examination, only the final shot was fatal. Darnell Bolton, who was suspected of being the trigger man by the LAPD, was himself murdered in a drive-by shooting by a rival gang member. Christopher Wallace traveled to Los Angeles, California in February to promote his upcoming second studio album, Life After Death , and to film a music video for its lead single, " Hypnotize ". Wallace cited not only the ongoing East Coast—West Coast hip hop feud and the murder of Tupac Shakur six months prior, but his role as a high-profile celebrity in general, as his reasons for the decision.
