The conviction of Mr. Lei was the culmination of a fall that began when video images spread on the Internet in November showing him with an year-old woman. Lei was sentenced days after President Xi Jinping made a new call to halt bureaucratic corruption and bribe-taking. A court in Chongqing, the municipality in southwest China where Mr.

Every detail of the encounters was recorded. Then a group of men confronted the officials with the video recordings and made demands. The widening scandal, which first emerged late last year, has led to the dismissals of at least 11 officials of the Communist Party, the government or state-owned companies for having sex with women from the ring and then being blackmailed by the men who had set up the snares. The most famous victim of the sex ring scandal is Lei Zhengfu, a middle-aged district party chief who was secretly filmed having sex in a hotel room in with a young woman. In late November , the leaked video of Mr. Lei began circulating on the Internet, and he became the poster boy for a series of low-level or midlevel officials who had been brought down by scandals, often sexual in nature, across the nation. Lei was removed from his job and placed under investigation soon after the video appeared online. Now, according to Xinhua, the state news agency, 10 other officials have been removed as well for falling prey to the sex ring. Five of them were executives in state-owned companies. The sex scandal might have come out earlier, but Bo Xilai, the Chongqing party chief at the time, and Wang Lijun, his police chief, buried the results of an investigation into the ring, according to news reports.
According to Reuters , Lei has been fired from his position after an internal investigation by the Communist Party. The video, reportedly shot in , had been circulating online since at least Tuesday. Lei had previously told reporters that the video had been faked, but an investigation by Chongqing's Discipline Inspection Commission reportedly found the video had not been manipulated. The journalist who broke the story, Ji Xuguang, has claimed on his Weibo account that he has more evidence against Lei, but cannot post it because of its explicit nature. Claims of corruption by Lei are also doing the rounds. Chongqing is, of course, the enormous city in Southwest China that was once led by ousted party leader Bo Xilai.
China is buzzing over a trove of raunchy photos showing six people engaged in an orgy - some of whom are rumored to be high-ranking Communist Party officials. The series of often graphic photos went viral last week on China's microblogging site Sina Weibo and have now traveled around the world. In the images, which were reportedly taken around , six men and women can be seen performing group sex acts as well as posing for strangely formal portrait-style photos together. Those involved make no effort to hide their faces, smiling in group shots, including one where one of the men can be seen grabbing the breasts of the woman in front of him. The rumor that the photos featured Communist Party officials seems to have been started by a Weibo user known only as Anhuiq, who said he saw the photos on another website and thought the man pictured was Wang Minsheing, head of the Communist Party in China's Lujiang County. Officials denied that either man was pictured, however, calling any suggestion "malicious slander," reported China's People's Daily. Wang told People's Daily he believed he was being blackmailed in connection with a corruption case being investigated in the county. A statement posted on the county's official Weibo page threatened legal action against those responsible for starting the rumor. Nevertheless, at least one couple in the photos has so far been identified as being connected to the Communist Party, and confessed.
